Hurricane Sandy Relief Trip
Members from Local 2687 recently returned from Breezy Point, NY, one of the hardest hit areas by Hurricane Sandy back on October 29th. The area is still in great need of help with clean up.
Members assembled at "Gut and Pump", an organization being run by off duty NYC firefighters and other volunteer agencies. Members were assigned a home in the area that was in need of gutting and clean up. The storm surge left up to 5 feet of water in some people's houses.
Local 2687 members were able to remove all damaged interior drywall, insulation, cabinets, and other fixtures in a personal residence during a one day trip on Saturday, December 1st, 2012.
Thank you to all members who participated.

*Special thanks to Local 2687 for helping fund the trip and allowing the purchase of tools to donate to Gut and Pump. Also special thanks goes to Home Depot of Hamden for donating approximately $200.00 worth of tools that were also donated to Gut and Pump.

Fundraising for Bridgeport Burn Center
Hamden Professional Firefighters Local 2687 has raised over $7,000.00 for the Connecticut Burn Center at Bridgeport Hospital. Approximately $4,500 was raised from a tip-a-firefighter event held at Park Central Tavern on May 25, 2012. HFD Platoon 4 was able to raise about $500.00 of their own money towards the cause, and another $2,000.00 was raised from a golf tournament held on October 5th, 2012 at the Laurel View CC. The Burn Center has undergone a 1.5 million dollar renovation, and has included the addition of a suite for family members of burn victims to stay in while their family members are being treated at the hospital.
Hamden Firefighters appeared on the November 30th, 2012 edition of "Firehouse Fridays" on Connecticut Style, an afternoon segment on WTNH News 8.
Thank you News 8 and Bridgeport Hospital Foundation for allowing us to appear on your show!
