Each year, Hamden Professional Firefighters Local 2687 and professional fire fighters from all across the United States conduct “Fill the Boot” campaigns and fundraisers to help support the MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association). MDA is the nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS, and related diseases by funding worldwide research. The Association also provides comprehensive health care and support services, advocacy and education to those affected.*
The members of Hamden Fire Department Local 2687 would like to express a special thanks to Lee Partyka Chevrolet/Mazda/Isuzu of Hamden for their generous donation of $500.00 towards our fundraising efforts for MDA (The Muscular Dystrophy Association). We would also like to thank the residents of the Town of Hamden and all others who donated during Local 2687’s “Fill the Boot” campaign over the past few weeks. Local 2687 MDA Chairman Captain Gary Couture reports that our Local raised over $8,800 this year in direct contributions.
The 2010 Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon is scheduled for September 5-6, 2010, and will be broadcast live from Las Vegas, Nevada.
According to IAFF General President Harold Schaitberger, in 2009, the IAFF donated $28.5 million for MDA to fund research that is developing effective treatments and working toward a cure. For the past 56 years, the IAFF (International Association of Firefighters) has been the largest contributor to MDA.**
