Fire Prevention Week/ Breast Cancer Awareness 2012
Updated On: Oct 19, 2012

Hamden Professional Firefighters Local 2687 are preparing for a busy month of October.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) (also referred to in America as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM)) This is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure. The campaign also offers information and support to those affected by breast cancer.

As well as providing a platform for breast cancer charities to raise awareness of their work and of the disease, BCAM is also a prime opportunity to remind women to be breast aware for earlier detection.*

During the month of October, Hamden Professional Firefighters will be wearing duty shirts that display a pink ribbon on them in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Pictures to follow!

October is also a busy month for Fire Prevention, as the National Fire Protection Association continues its tradition of observing Fire Prevention Week on the Sunday through Saturday period in which October 9th falls.  This year Fire Prevention week is October 7-13.  Hamden Professional Firefighters, as well as firefighters all across the nation, are busy this month with Fire Prevention Education with people of all ages.

This year’s theme: “Have two ways out!”

The reality is that when fire strikes, your home could be engulfed in smoke and flames in just a few minutes.

It is important to have a home fire escape plan that prepares your family to think fast and get out quickly when the smoke alarm sounds. What if your first escape route is blocked by smoke or flames? That's why having two ways out is such a key part of your plan. This year’s theme,“Have 2 Ways Out!”, focuses on the importance of fire escape planning and practice. *
