On August 30, 2010 Battalion Chief Dave Stawhince reported for duty for the last time, marking the end of a 32 year career on the Hamden Fire Department. Retired members, active members, family and friends gathered and filled Station 3 on Hartford Turnpike to celebrate this milestone and congratulate Dave on his retirement.
Retiring as a Battalion Chief in charge of the Fourth Platoon, Dave moved through the ranks of Firefighter / EMT, Lieutenant, and Captain; and was assigned in every Hamden fire station at some point in his career. In addition to his contributions as a dedicated firefighter and fire officer, Dave was an active leader in Local 2687. With the support of our membership, Dave Stawhince was our longest continuously serving executive board member, representing the interests of career firefighters in the position of Negotiator. He was respected by every Town and Fire administration he worked with, and mentored new union officers as they gained experience in labor issues.
A physical fitness enthusiast, Dave encouraged members to take part in work-out competitions with the goal of keeping our members healthy and strong….and doing more reps than anyone else of course.
