Station 2, located at 71 Circular Avenue, is Hamden's busiest fire station. It serves the most densly populated district in Hamden; with Engine 2, and Rescue 2, an advanced life support paramedic unit. Five firefighters staff this building at all times to respond to all emergencies.
It has been widely known for many years that this aging building has been in need of replacement. In fact, in past years, various administrations have had plans for extensive renovation or replacement of this Station. To the credit of the Hamden Public Works, patchwork repairs have held back the forces of nature for years. Without a budget to make large improvements however, the tradesmen held the line for as long as they were able. At this point, the age and condition of the building has simply overtaken the ability to repair the existing structure. Years of water damage have rotted roof and ceiling areas, and mold has taken hold of interior walls.
Station 2 has been the subject of recent news articles, such as the New Haven Register in the September 1st edition, and the September 8th edition, as well as an on-air news story with NBC 30. The firefighters working at Station 2 are proud of their Company and record of service to their community. Replacement of this community resource should no longer be an option. It should be a mandate. For a gallery of photos of Station 2 conditions, click here.
