I was a Volunteer Fire Fighter in Hamden from 1936 - 1942 -- A member of Co. # 3 in Whitneyville but basically worked with Squad 1 out of Centerville - I recall the very day we got the Diamond T Squad truck - and I went to many, many calls on it - It had a WINDSHIELD for the riders on the tailboard - Unheard of in those days - all the old-timers laughed at us with a new squad with a Windshield ! I worked vacation shifts for several of the paid Firefighters - I worked with Chief Raymond Spencer, Captain Albert Purce and Captain Joe Hrmodka - I am coming up to visit in Hamden ( I lived at 51 Swarthmore Street from 1925 - 1947 - in Spring Glen ) I plan to visit with the Hamden Fire Department people on Possibly Thursday, June 19, 2008 or maybe Friday, June 20th. I love your website - and would like to talk with whoever is Historian for HFD. I can fill in a lot of old-timer names and places. Thank you.
